Millions of Seikos still run the 7S26 — the workhorse movement in SKX divers, Seiko 5s and SNZF models from the 90s through the 2010s. It's reliable but dated: no hand-winding, no hacking. The NH36 drops straight in as a modern replacement with both features.

The NH36 is dimensionally identical to the 7S26 family footprint (~31.8mm wide, same stem height class, same dial foot hole positions). Your existing dial, hands, case, crown and stem carry over. This makes it ideal for: rescuing a dead 7S26 watch, upgrading a keeper you don't want to sell, or converting an original SKX into a full mod platform without hunting vintage parts.
The Swap Checklist
- Confirm day wheel position: like all NH36s, buy the version matching your crown position (3 o'clock for most SKX/Seiko 5 cases)
- Reuse your stem if possible: 7S26 stems often thread into NH36 movements; test engagement before closing up. If unsure, fit a new stem cut to length
- Check the date/day wheels against your dial: colors differ between eras — a white-disc 7S26 under a black-window dial looks wrong; swap discs if needed
- Transfer or replace gaskets: new caseback gasket every open, per our gasket rules

What Doesn't Transfer

NH35 instead?
Only if your dial has no day window. Day-date dials (most SKX-class watches) need the NH36.
