Swapping a Date Wheel

Replacing a date wheel is a step up from overlays — you swap the actual numbered disc. Here is how to do it safely on an NH35.

When to Swap Instead of Overlay

• Font/color change: white to black, or a custom wheel
• Damaged wheel: a deformed tooth or faded print
• Full replacement: when you'd rather not use adhesive

Tools You'll Need

• Movement holder
• Fine tweezers
• Small wooden stick or toothpick (to avoid scratching)
• Flat jeweler's screwdriver

Step by Step

1. Remove the movement and secure it in the holder
2. Loosen and remove the screws holding the calendar plate
3. Carefully lift the plate that covers the date wheel
4. Using tweezers, lift out the old date wheel by its edge
5. Place the new date wheel, matching the number orientation
6. Replace the plate and screws
7. Test: pull the crown to position 1 and advance the date — it should click cleanly through every number

Important Tip

Never touch the printed surface of the date wheel — oils and scratches show up immediately. Handle it by the edge with tweezers or a toothpick.
