NH36 Day-Date Conversion

Converting an NH35 build to day-date with an NH36 is one of the most satisfying upgrades. Here is what it involves.

Why Convert

  • Add function: gain the spelled-out day window
  • Match a day-date dial: many dials include a day aperture
  • Modularity: the NH35 calendar layer is designed to accept the NH36 day mechanism

The Key Requirement: Crown Position

NH36 day wheels are pre-aligned so the day text reads upright in the window. You must buy the version matching your case's crown position:

  • 3 o'clock crown → NH36 @ 3 o'clock
  • 4 o'clock crown → NH36 @ 4 o'clock

The two are NOT interchangeable — the day wheel is set for one position.

The Swap Basics

  1. Remove the movement from the case
  2. Swap the NH35's calendar parts for the NH36 day-date module (or replace the whole movement)
  3. Fit a dial with a day window
  4. Test: advance past midnight — both day and date should change cleanly

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a new dial?
Yes — your dial must have a day window, and its date position must match the movement.

Are the hands compatible?
Yes — hand post sizes are shared across the NH family.

Is the whole movement replacement easier?
For beginners, yes — swap the entire NH36 movement rather than rebuilding the calendar module. See our movement guide.
