For a watch that went on the Moon and bears the "Moonwatch" name, a moonphase complication seems only fitting. In January 2025, Omega dramatically revamped the Speedmaster Moonphase concept with new dimensions, genuine meteorite dials, and a hand-wound movement — creating what may be the most visually striking Speedmaster variant in years.

The new Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite watches replace the previous 44.25mm automatic models with a smaller, slimmer 43mm hand-wound package that shares its proportions with the Speedmaster Chronoscope.

Smaller, Slimmer, and More Refined

The previous automatic Speedmaster Moonphase measured 44.25mm in diameter, 16.9mm in thickness, and 50mm in length. The new Moonphase Meteorite models cut those dimensions to 43mm, 13.6mm (a colossal 3.3mm reduction), and 48.6mm respectively. While still not compact by any means, the evolution is significant and makes the watch considerably more wearable.

The case follows classic Speedmaster DNA: asymmetrical with lyre lugs, polished and brushed accents, a fixed bezel with ceramic insert (available in blue or black), and a box-shaped sapphire crystal. Water resistance stands at 50 meters.

Two Stunning Meteorite Dial Variants

Two versions are available, both in stainless steel on bracelets:

• Blue variant: Galvanic grey-coated meteorite dial on a blue PVD-coated base, blue ceramic bezel, white gold hands and markers with blue PVD coating
• Black variant: Black PVD-coated meteorite dial on a black PVD-coated base, black ceramic bezel, 18K white gold hands and markers

Both feature red accents on the Speedmaster logo and date hand. The moonphase indication shows two cabochon moons crafted from genuine pieces of Moon meteorite, with the star background positioned exactly as it appeared on the night Apollo 11 reached the Moon in 1969, as seen from Biel — Omega's headquarters.

New Calibre 9914: Hand-Wound with Moon Phase

Inside beats the new manual-winding calibre 9914, based on the same platform as the hand-wound calibre 9908 of the Speedmaster Chronoscope. The movement features Omega's co-axial escapement, silicon balance spring, column wheel, and vertical clutch. It runs at 4Hz, offers a comfortable 60-hour power reserve via two barrels in series, and is Master Chronometer certified — resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 Gauss.
