Test Before You Close the Case

The worst modding moment: closing the case, then discovering something doesn't work — and reopening everything. Test these five things before final assembly.

The Five Tests

  1. Hand clearance: advance hands through a full revolution — no rubbing on dial, markers or each other
  2. Date flip timing: advance past midnight — date should change cleanly between 11:55 and 12:05
  3. Crown functions: all positions work — winding, date set, time set
  4. Dial seating: no wobble, date centered in window
  5. Bezel action: rotates smoothly with even clicks

The Water Resistance Question

After any case opening, assume water resistance is compromised until pressure-tested. A dry pressure test confirms seals without risk. Until tested: no swimming, no showers.

Frequently Asked Questions

I closed the case and found a problem — now what?
Reopen carefully. It happens to everyone; that's why the five-test habit matters.

Where can I pressure-test?
Most watchmakers offer dry testing inexpensively. See our servicing guide.
