Capturing the Glow

Lume shots are the most dramatic photos in watch collecting. Here is how to nail them.

The Charging Step

• UV flashlight: charges lume faster and brighter than room light — the enthusiast's secret weapon
• Bright lamp: hold the watch 10–15cm from a strong LED for 30–60 seconds
• Sunlight: works well but heats the watch — brief exposure only

The Shooting Setup

1. Kill all lights — total darkness except the lume itself
2. Camera mode: manual or night mode, ISO raised (800–1600)
3. Steady the phone/camera — brace on a table or tripod; long exposures need stability
4. Shoot immediately — brightness fades fastest in the first minutes

Composition Tips

• Shoot straight-on for the full glow pattern
• Angled shots show depth of applied markers
• Include a sliver of ambient light for context — pure black can look abstract
