Two humble tools prevent most modding frustration: the movement holder and the dust blower.

Movement Holder

• What it does: clamps the movement steady while you work on hands, dials and calendar parts
• Why it matters: a moving movement means bent hands, scratched dials and slipped screwdrivers
• Tip: adjust jaws snugly — tight enough to hold, loose enough to avoid deforming the movement ring

Dust Blower

• What it does: clears dust from dial and movement before sealing the case
• Why not breath: breath carries moisture that condenses under the crystal later
• Technique: short puffs at an angle, never directly at open movements for prolonged periods
