Opening the Case Safely

Every mod starts with opening the case back. Snap-backs and screw-downs need completely different techniques.

Snap-Back Cases

1. Locate the pry lip — usually at 6 or 12 o'clock edge
2. Tape around the area to protect the finish
3. Insert a case knife and twist gently until it pops
4. Lift off evenly

To close: align correctly and press with even thumb pressure over a cloth until it clicks.

Screw-Down Casebacks

1. Fit a case wrench with pins into the slots
2. Clamp the case in a holder so it doesn't spin
3. Turn counterclockwise with firm, even pressure
4. Clean and inspect the gasket before resealing

To close: tighten snugly — gorilla force deforms gaskets and threads.

Frequently Asked Questions

My wrench keeps slipping — why?
Pins not fully seated in the slots, or worn slot edges. Re-seat pins firmly before turning.

Do I need a case holder?
For screw-downs, effectively yes — without it the case spins and you risk slipping into the crystal. See our tool kit guide.
