Reading Dial Print Registration

Print registration — how precisely dial elements align with each other — separates quality dials from sloppy ones instantly once you know where to look.

The Three Alignment Checks

  1. Date window centering: numeral should sit equidistant from window edges — see our alignment guide
  2. Index ring concentricity: hour markers should sit at identical distance from center post all around
  3. Text baseline level: brand text should sit perfectly horizontal relative to the 12–6 axis

How to Check

  • Use a loupe or phone macro mode
  • Compare opposite markers: measure 12-to-center versus 6-to-center distances visually
  • Rotate the dial 180° under inspection — misalignments become obvious when orientation flips

What Misregistration Means

  • Date consistently off one direction
  • One marker off, rest aligned
  • Everything slightly rotated
  • MisalignmentProduction Cause
Printing mask shifted during production run
    Individual application error (applied indices)
    Dial feet machined off-position

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Minor misalignment acceptable?
Sub-millimeter variations exist in all production. If you notice it without hunting for it, the dial deserves replacement.
